About Us

My love affair with gardening started early. Growing up in Texas, I often found myself playing with the petals of our giant climbing roses, purple irises and 6-foot sunflowers, using pampas grass fronds as make-believe tiki torches and sucking the nectar out of the sweet-smelling honeysuckle that climbed the corner of our house.

I didn't do much gardening in practice until I moved to Portland, Oregon and saw the beauty of what the dark, wet winter months could bring. The first year, I grew 24 tomato plants from seed. The second year, I grew over 500 ornamental grasses and perennials from seed for our front yard renovation. It was a lot of work and I made a lot of mistakes! But, when the plants not only survived but actually bloomed I figured I could finally call myself a real "gardener". I was hooked.

I had been growing annual flowers from Floret seed since 2017. But, I decided to take it to the next level in 2022 by filling the raised garden beds in my side yard with cut flowers. The evening visits with the zinnias full of napping bees made all of the hard work worth it.

In 2023, I decided to launch Golden Prairie Flowers - an homage to the prairies where I came from and some of the flowers and grasses that grow there. Flowers are a reminder that nature is magical - and life is too. I want to share their magic with you, your family, your friends, your partners, and children.

By buying products from Golden Prairie Flowers, you are supporting a small, woman-owned business who practices organic farming methods and invests in quality, unique and heirloom plants.
